Phantoms win back to back weeks!
The Pittsburgh Phantoms scored 89 points for the week and held off the charging Indianapolis Ice to pick-up their second weekly win in two weeks. Their was strong play by all, yet three players stood out from the rest most notably Mike Knuble who put up 20 points for the week with 3 goals and 3 assists. Not far behind him with 10 points each were Andrej Sekera and Martin St Louis.
The Indianapolis Ice were pleased that Marty Turco had a good week, which are seemingly few and far between. His 2-1-0 record for the week is not enough to quiet the trade rumors swirling in Dallas. The Ice also got strong performances from Evgeni Malkin (1G 5A), Luke Schenn (2G 1A) and Olli Jokinen (1G 1A).
The Seattle Blast secured the 3rd spot with 77 points. Loui Eriksson led the way with 2 goals and 3 assists, followed closely by Jack Johnson with 2 goals and 3 assists. Lets not forget Eric Staal who is one of the few bright spots on the Carolina roster, who notched 2 goals and 2 assists.
The Hollywood Hounds also had 77 points for the week and were carried by the strong play of Niklas Backstrom. Backstrom posted 22 points scoring 2 goals and 8 assists fro the week. Other contributors for the Hounds were Drew Stafford and Jonas Hiller each with 12 points for the week.
Rounding out the top 5 were the Syracuse Muddogs with a strong team performance. The Muddogs are consistent as they were last season and look to be one of the teams to beat as the season winds down. They were led this week by Tomas Plekanec (2G 2A), James Neal (2G 1A) and Steve Mason, who won both his contests this week.
This is the last week before the Olympic Break and then we go right into the trading deadline. Time to burn up the phone lines and get your team set for the final regular season push and gear up for the playoffs.
